ACS Engineering Au: Materials Design VSI Call for Papers
ACS Engineering Au Call for Papers
Virtual Special Issue: Materials Design

Aims & Scope
Materials constitute an indispensable part of our day-to-day activities. Their importance in various fields such as energy storage, environmental protection, healthcare, technology, and manufacturing cannot be overemphasized. Over the last decade, the rapid development of more efficient computational methods, as well as automated experimental platforms, has made it possible to screen and design new materials at an accelerated pace, enabling innovation towards a more sustainable future. To highlight the latest fundamental research and advances in technologies that are dependent on the design of such systems, ACS Engineering Au is launching a virtual special issue on Materials Design.

This virtual special issue, edited by Linda J. Broadbelt (Northwestern University, United States, Associate Editor, ACS Engineering Au), Paul J Dauenhauer (University of Minnesota, United States), Steven G. Arturo (The Dow Chemical Co., United States), and Ananth Govind Rajan (Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India), will feature articles on the breadth and depth of designing materials and engineering systems, and their future prospects.
We invite contributions of Articles, Letters, Reviews, and Perspectives that provide new directions or insights exploring the synthesis, characterization, structure, behavior, or function of engineered systems and/or their applications in various technologies. Some example areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems
  • Catalytic technologies
  • Novel membrane materials for efficient separations
  • Photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices
  • Polymeric, composite, and nanostructured materials
  • Computational design of materials
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning for materials design
  • Automated experimental platforms for materials screening
If your paper is accepted for inclusion in this virtual special issue, your work will be highlighted as a significant contribution to this expanding field. If accepted, publications will go online as soon as possible and be published in the next available issue. Publications on this topic will be gathered into a virtual issue toward the end of the year and widely promoted, and because ACS Engineering Au is a fully open access journal, and indexed in the Web of Science, your paper will be available to anyone, at anytime, anywhere in the world.

Submissions are welcome through 30 November 2023. All articles will be peer reviewed prior to acceptance to ensure they fit the scope of the virtual special issue and meet the high scientific publishing standards of ACS Engineering Au. The peer review process for all papers will be managed by a Deputy or Associate Editor for ACS Engineering Au to ensure rigor is maintained.

The editors welcome interested authors to submit pre-submission enquiries to Prof. Linda J. Broadbelt to ensure the suitability of the work prior to submission.

Article Processing Charges apply for publication in this fully open access journal. The base APC is $2000 with a CC BY-NC-ND license. Please see our website for more information on Open Access Pricing, our ACS Country Discount & Waiver Policy, and ACS Read + Publish agreements.
