In October 2018, ACS Chemical Neuroscience published a Special Issue, DARK Classics in Chemical Neuroscience. In this issue, the major illicit drugs were extensively reviewed, not only covering their chemistry (both industrial/pharmaceutical and clandestine), pharmacology, and disposition, but also delving into historical and cultural aspects of each drug. This issue drew an increase in usage, growth in citations, and a number of articles which trended on AltmetricTM. Read highlights from the Special Issue:

Morteza Mahmoudi, Sepideh Pakpour and George Perry

Schuyler A. Chambers, Jenna M. DeSousa, Eric D. Huseman and Steven D. Townsend

Lee E. Dunlap, Anne M. Andrews and David E. Olson

S. Mallory Burns, Christopher W. Cunningham and Susan L. Mercer

Due to the success of DARK Classic in Chemical Neuroscience, ACS Chemical Neuroscience will be developing DARK Classics in Chemical Neuroscience Volume II scheduled to publish in early 2020. Craig W. Lindsley, Editor-in-Chief, is looking for additional reviews that share the format of the first issue with a focus on psychoactive, illicit drugs. Reviews should cover the history, street names, current synthesis/production route, pharmacology, DMPK, and cultural/historical relevance of illicit drugs.
